Stop Smoking Questions – FAQ

📞 Call Me
The Stop Smoking Man walks down the street answering questions about stopping smoking from journalists and members of the public

People often have questions before they decide to stop smoking, and that’s completely natural. In this FAQ I cover the most common ones, such as “Can I really stop smoking in one session?”, “What happens if I start again?” and “Does it work online over Zoom?”. You’ll also find answers about how I run sessions, what makes my approach different, and the kind of support you can expect. If your question isn’t covered here, please call or message me directly — I’ll be happy to help.

Yes. My process is a single-session approach, and I successfully help lots of people just like you — that’s why I’m known as The Stop Smoking Man. It works by changing the way your mind responds to cigarettes, so the desire to smoke simply drops away.

Everyone who works with me is covered by my guarantee - if you find yourself smoking again within one year of our session, I will help you again for free.

No therapist has a 100% success rate — and anyone who claims otherwise is, at best, stretching the truth somewhat. However, most people genuinely stop in the first session and don’t need to come back. For the few who do, I offer a one-year guarantee. My promise is simple: if you find yourself smoking at any time within a year of our session, I’ll help you again for free.

The first step is a free consultation call. I’ll ask four simple questions that help us both work out whether you’re in the right place to quit. If you’re not quite ready, that’s no problem — we’ll discuss what’s holding you back, I’ll give you some practical advice, and we can check in again in a week or two.

But what if you are ready? If you are ready, then we will book a session for 7-10 days time and very soon you will finally be free of smoking!

Hypnotherapy is one of the tools I use, but it's not the whole story. I also use NLP, reframing, and a number of other proven psychological techniques to help you get free from cigarettes. A lot of the work is about reframing the things you’ve seen as obstacles so they no longer feel scary, and freeing you from the illusions and misconceptions that have kept you trapped. Together, these approaches create the right conditions for you to stop smoking easily.

Since 2020, I’ve worked almost entirely online. That means I can help you stop smoking via Zoom, no matter where you are in the world — from the comfort of your own home. Occasionally I’ll see clients in person in my home town of Sudbury if Zoom isn’t possible, but that’s rarely necessary.

I work with a wide range of people — from light smokers to those who’ve smoked heavily for decades, and even people who vape. The truth is, if you genuinely want to stop, I can probably help. It starts with a free consultation call and I offer a 1-year guarantee to everyone that stops smoking with me.

For a full breakdown of the types of people I work with (and a few I can’t), see my Who I Can Help Stop Smoking page.

I'm pleased to say that online therapy is now a well established and very credible practice. Since 2020 I’ve helped people all over the world stop smoking via Zoom. Hypnosis and the other psychological methods I use don’t depend on being in the same room; what matters is that we can talk, you can follow my guidance, and you’re comfortable in your own space.

Many clients actually find being at home helps them relax more deeply. Hypnotherapy is just one of the tools I use, alongside NLP and other advanced approaches, and all of them work seamlessly over video.

Most sessions last up to around two hours, but I always allow extra time in case it's needed. In most cases you’ll only need one session, plus the reassurance of a one-year guarantee if you ever need to come back.

No, as long as you follow my instructions that won't happen. Sometimes people replace smoking with snacking, but my approach prevents that. The part of you that used to drive the smoking habit is given a new, more helpful role — nothing to do with smoking, eating, or anything harmful. That way it has no interest in pushing you toward food.

I charge a single fee of £350 for the session, which covers your consultation and includes my one-year guarantee. Most people find this is far less than they would have spent on cigarettes in just a couple of months.
